Rat pick-up

PICK-UP DAY RULES

  •  we ask that you arrive on time as there are many other people with pre-arranged pick-up slots. If you are running late, please contact us, as communication is the key to a successful pick-up. If the reason for running late is out of your control, such as road closures, canceled trains/buses, emergencies, etc., we can absolutely understand. We can either reschedule for another day or for a later pick-up slot if any are available on the same day, provided you are running less than 45 minutes behind.

  • If you need to reschedule due to illness, please let us know as soon as possible. The sooner you let us know, the smoother the rescheduling will be.

  • If the country is experiencing a heatwave and your car does not have air conditioning, please let us know ASAP so we can reschedule the pick-up for a cooler day.

  • If you are running late due to your own fault (leaving late, forgetting, etc.), we reserve the right to cancel your pick-up slot for that day.

  • If you fail to attend twice in a row regardless of the reason, we reserve the right to cancel your reservation and pass it to the next person on our waiting list.

  • Minors CANNOT arrive to pick up without an adult.

  • On the day of the pick-up, we ask that you, as the new owner, provide an appropriate carrier to transport the rats in. If you are unsure of which type of carrier to buy, please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.

  • We also ask that you do NOT visit any pet stores, rescues, kennels, petting farms, or other facilities with animals prior to your pick-up. This is to ensure that you do not accidentally bring any avoidable pathogens into the rattery on your clothes. If you must visit the vet for any of your other animals on the day of the pick-up, we ask that you bring a full change of clothes and wash your hands thoroughly before departing for the rat pick-up.

  • If you have any other household animals, we ask that you do NOT bring them with you. This includes other rats. If you have a guide dog, medical alert dog, etc., please inform us before your pick-up date so we can ensure a safe experience for you, your service dog, and the rats. This does not include ESA (Emotional Support Animals).

  • If you are bringing a child with you, please inform us so we can allocate a longer pick-up time slot and ensure we have enough time to show the child(ren) how to handle and be around rats.

  • Please do NOT vape, smoke cigarettes, or weed (or any other products) in the clothes you plan to wear for pick-up. The smell lingers and is harmful to the animals.

WHAT TO BRING TO PICK-UP

Please ensure you bring a safe carrier. The carrier should not be made of cardboard, such as those provided by pet stores. Ensure the carrier is clean and free of broken parts.

Inside the carrier, please include bedding at the bottom. You may also provide little snacks and a hide for the rats if you’d like. Please do NOT attach a water bottle to your carrier. Water bottles can make the bedding wet in transit, as the vibration and shaking of a vehicle may cause the bottle to drip excessively. To provide hydration during the journey without wetting the bedding and the rats, you can add a few cucumber slices to the carrier. If you are traveling from far away or during a heatwave, please bring a water bottle for the rats so you can offer it to them during any stops on the way home.

Please do NOT bring any family pets with you for the ride home. Dogs, cats, etc., should not be in the same car as your rat. If you have a service dog, please let us know and we will work with you.
